How to Freeze Apple Cider Vinegar

We would recommend freezing your vinegar in an ice cube tray. This will give you the most flexibility when it comes to defrosting and using it:

  1. Fill an Ice Cube Tray: First, take an ice cube tray and fill each slot up to around 80% of the way with vinegar.
  2. Wrap: Wrap the tray in cling film (or place a lid on top if you have one) to keep the vinegar protected.
  3. Flash Freeze: Place the tray in the freezer and allow it to freeze solid.
  4. Final Freeze: Once frozen, you can remove it from the freezer and pop each cube out of the tray and into a bag for easier storage.

2 Tips for Freezing Apple Cider Vinegar

Now you know how to freeze it, we’ve got our 2 top tips which we strongly recommend following when freezing apple cider vinegar to have the best results:

Freeze in Cubes
You’ll only ever want a little amount of the vinegar so don’t freeze it in significant portions which you’ll have to refreeze continually. Instead, freeze it in cubes.

Don’t Bother…
No, really! Apple cider vinegar will last in your cupboard out of direct sunlight for over a year. Freezing it will not prolong this life and will only degrade the flavour, so you have to question whether there’s really any point.

How Long Can You Freeze Apple Cider Vinegar?

You can keep your apple cider vinegar frozen for up to 1 year. The problem is, the longer you freeze it, the more the flavour will degrade.

This is not a problem you have when you store it in the cupboard away from light, and it will keep for roughly the same amount of time.

This, therefore, begs the question: What’s the point in freezing apple cider vinegar in the first place?

How Long Does Apple Cider Vinegar Last?

Apple cider vinegar does not need to be stored in the fridge. In a cupboard, unopened, it will keep for around 2 years. Once opened, this drops to around 1 year.

How Do You Defrost Apple Cider Vinegar?

To defrost your apple cider vinegar cubes, place them in a cup in the fridge to slowly thaw overnight. If you want to speed this process up, then place the cube of vinegar in a cup and then place it into a bowl of warm water.

Whenever you defrost apple cider vinegar, avoid bringing it up to a boil as this can ruin the flavour and any potential health benefits.

Can You Refreeze Apple Cider Vinegar?

Obviously, there’s no texture to degrade, but refreezing cider vinegar can impact one important aspect: The flavour.

This is why we would strongly advise against refreezing apple cider vinegar as freezing it once will already degrade the flavour.

Does Apple Cider Vinegar Freeze Well?

With apple cider vinegar having a shelf life of around 2 years, it simply doesn’t make sense to freeze it. Not only does apple cider vinegar in the cupboard have a decent shelf life, but the frozen version isn’t even that good.
