How to Freeze Marmite

The ultimate way to freeze Marmite is to portion it out well in advance. This will allow you to thaw the marmite a little at a time, making use of it for toast, sandwiches, or to stir into stews as and when you need to.

Here’s the full method for doing so:

  1. Line an Ice Cube Tray: We recommend lining an ice cube tray with plastic wrap and pressing the plastic sheets into the holes of the ice cube tray firmly.
  2. Transfer Marmite: Then, transfer the Marmite into each of the small holes across the ice cube tray, ensuring that the plastic wrap acts as a barrier between the stainable ice tray and the deep brown Marmite.
  3. Freeze: Once the Marmite is portioned out, simply transfer the Marmite to the freezer, where it can freeze overnight. As Marmite is quite thick, give it as much time as possible to freeze entirely – it can be somewhat stubborn.
  4. Remove Cubes: Once the marmite is frozen solid, you can either leave it in the ice cube tray, popping a cube out at a time or you can remove them all to store.
  5. Bag Up: Once you’ve removed all of the cubes, pop them into a freezer bag, seal the bag up and return it to the freezer.
